Her grandfather was knighted at age 40 and died just before Christmas 12 years later. Her father was knighted, served as secretary of state under Charles I and married well. Her brother also served as secretary to Charles I and fortuitously died before Cromwell came to power. She married beneath herself, outlived him by a hair, and wrote a meticulous will in which she left her son George a few silver spoons and 40 shillings. He went to Virginia and did well for himself.

Sir Thomas Windebanke, born c 1546 at Haines Hall in Berkshire, died 24 October 1607 in Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire. Buried 25 November 1607 at St. Martin in Westminster, London. Knighted 23 July 1603. Secretary of state under Charles I, clerk of the Signet of Elizabeth I and James I, and deputy-clerk of the Privy council. Married 20 August 1566 in Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire to Frances (Mary) Dymoke, born c 1550 Scrivelsby, died after 1611.
