Essentially nothing known of this Smith family in England. In Virginia, records lie fairly thick. The place names are Purton and Shooter's Hill. Major John was a burgess from Warwick Co. and speaker of the House of Burgesses in 1657-58, and gained his estate from his wife's father, Richard Bernard. His great-grandson John of Shooter's Hill, on the Pianketank, was also a burgess, from Middlesex, 1767-69.
