Smith (Bourdeaux)

The recognizable name is Landgrave Thomas Smith, of whom there were two, father and son. The first came to South Carolina in the late 17th century, served as royal governor, wrote his will in 1692 and bequeathed to his friend Colonel Joseph Blake of Colleton County his landgrave "together with all the baronies, lands, privileges, and dignities thereunto belonging." The barony was known as Wiskinboo. The second settled in Goose Creek in the early 18th century, married first Anna Conelia van Myddah and then Mary Hyrne, and died in 1738. His brother Dr. George of Philadelphia and nephew the Reverend Josiah of Philadelphia and Charleston are the line of descent, however.
