A fairly extensive line of Martines was well established on the lower Hudson River by 1800. Interestingly, and as it happens coincidentally, a dominant first name in that family, for five generations, was John. The name Samuel also shows up occasionally. Although our Samuel was conveniently born and married and died in nearby New York City, no connection is there to be established.
