Windebanke

The illustrious two of this family, connected to Lincolnshire by marriage with the Dymokes, are Thomas and Francis. The line apparently self-generated when Henry VIII was busy fighting the Pope. Research underway. Surely there were predecessors who left a bit of paper here or there.

Generation No. 1

Richard Windebanke, born circa 1504 [?] in Wallop, Hampshire, died circa 10 December 1556. In service at Calais 1533, Guisnes in 1541, knighted in 1544. Married circa 1544 to Margaret Verch Griffth (Ferch Gruffydd), daughter of Henry, who died circa 1558.

Generation No. 2

Sir Thomas Windebanke, born circa 1546/50 [?] at "Haines Hall" in Berkshire and died October 24, 1607 in Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire. Buried November 25, 1607 at St. Martin in Westminster, London. Knighted July 23, 1603. Occupation: Duke of Norfolk, Parish of Berkshire, Secretary of State under Charles I, Clerk of the Signet of Elizabeth I and James I, and Deputy-clerk of the Privy council. Married on August 20, 1566 in Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire, England to Frances Dymoke [Sir Edward Dymoke and Anne Talboys], born circa 1550 Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire, and died after 1611.

Mildred Windebanke, died 1631, married Robert Reade of Linkenholt, Hampshire. Children named in will.
