

The Urquhart clan, essentially extinct, defines itself around a folklore warrior named Conachar Mor, the remains of Urquhart Castle and Scotland's most famous lake, itself known primarily for its elusive "monster". Thomas Urquhart, builder of the castle, lives on in family legend for reputedly fathering thirty-six children by one, clearly extraordinary, wife in the 16th century. John Urquhart, born about 1773 in Ross, Cromarty, Scotland. Married Katharine Banks.
David Urquhart, born May 15, 1779 in Cadboll, Fearn, Ross, Scotland and died November 20, 1842 in Augusta, Georgia. Only son of his parents to be married, on April 7, 1799, to Katherine Brooks Garterey McGehee, born July 7, 1783 in Virginia, died October 6, 1835 in Augusta, Georgia. Both buried in Linwood Cemetery, Columbus Georgia.
