Genealogy

Hardin

A prolific lot, overrun by Martins, Marks and Henrys. Three notables: Ruffled Shirt Martin, Racer Mark and Humdrum Harry. Guess who's in the direct line? The progenitor of all of them, Marcus Hardin, it's fairly safe to say with some accuracy, was born on Staten Island, Richmond County, New York, and was christened Marcus after his presumed grandfather Marcus Du Sauchoy on March 26 1681 in Staten Island. The earliest record places him and his wife Mary Hogue—Marie Madeline de la Chaumette Hogue—in Northumberland County, Virginia Colony in 1707. In 1716 they held 94 acres in Richmond County, but it is not clear that they ever actually lived there. In 1723 they lived in King George County and was granted 640 acres in Stafford County. It appears that he immediately assigned 295 acres of this grant to John Windwright. The following year Mark obtained a warrant for 232 acres in King George County. His will was probated in Prince William County, Virginia on 21 May 1735.....
