Cobbs/Cobb

The name changed from Cobbs to Cobb in the middle of the eighteenth century with John and Mildred Lewis Cobb, who "became the ancestors of the very large and distinguished family of Georgia—a family consisting to a very remarkable degree of prominent and even eminent lawyers."

He married Marion McHenry Lumpkin January 9, 1844, daughter of Joseph Lumpkin and Callender Grieve. She, born February 28, 1822, and died July 10, 1897 in buried at Oconee Hills Cemetary, Athens, GA.

Howell Cobb (CSA), born September 7, 1815 in Cherry Hill, GA (Jefferson County), and died October 9, 1868 in New York City. He married Mary Ann Lamar May 26, 1835, daughter of Zachariah Lamar and Mary Ann. She, born April 23, 1818 in Milledgeville, GA, and died November 20, 1889 in Athens, GA (Clarke County).

Laura Battaile Cobb, born March 12, 1818, and died October 16, 1888 in Athens, Clarke County, GA. She married Williams Rutherford. He was born September 3, 1818, and died August 21, 1896.

Mildred Lewis Cobb, born November 12, 1820, and died April 28, 1900 in Athens, Clarke County, GA. She married Luther Judson Glenn between 1832-1866. He was born November 26, 1818, and died June 9, 1886 in Athens, GA.
